The calling of a prophet

Prophetic Calling: -The calling of a prophet
Prophetic Calling: -The calling of a prophet

The calling of a prophet happens to send the prophet out to the world for his/her prophetic ministry. It is an awakening call to a person that s/he was born a prophet.

A prophet is a God’s messenger who God speaks through. See who is a prophet.

God knows His prophets even before they are formed in the womb. He sanctifies and ordains them (prophets) for the prophetic ministry even before their birth. This is clearly revealed when God was calling prophet Jeremiah for his ministry.

Jer 1:5 before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou came forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

God creates, sanctifies and anoints a prophet before His birth but a prophet neither starts his/her ministry immediately nor knows s/he is born a prophet.

Jesus was the son of God and God even before His birth, and He waited until He was about 30 years to start His ministry. As Jesus waited for His appointed time to start His ministry, God waits until His appointed time to call a prophet and send her/him. The difference between Jesus and other prophets is that Jesus knew what He was born to do and He knew His appointed time.

The calling of a prophet for his/her prophetic ministry

If God created you for the prophetic ministry, there is a time when He comes to reveal Himself and send you out.

Num 12:6: And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.

In vision, He speaks and makes it known to you that He created and anointed you for the prophetic ministry then He sends you out to the world.

The Bible reveals how God calls and sends His prophets. Let us look at the calling of some prophets in the Bible.

Jeremiah calling

The word of God came to Jeremiah confirming that he was born a prophet of God. After that, God sent him out to the world.

Jer 1:4-6: Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou came forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD!  behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

Jer 1:7-10: But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD. Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth.  And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

Samuel calling

1 Sam 3:1-3: And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli.  And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision. And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see. And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep.

1 Sam 3:4-6: That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I. And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou called me.  And he said, I called not; lie down again.  And he went and lay down.  And the LORD called yet again, Samuel.  And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me.  And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.

1 Sam 3:7-9: Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him. And the LORD called Samuel again the third time.  And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me.  And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child. Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant hears.  So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

Ezekiel calling

Ezek 2:1-3: And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee. And the spirit entered into me when he spoke unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spoke unto me. And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day.

God confirms to a person that s/he was born a prophet at the right time and then sends the prophet out to the world.

If you are a true God prophet, the word of God comes to you not you finding the word.

Joel 1:1: The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.

Hosea 1:1: The word of the LORD that came unto Hosea,

Ezek 1:3: The word of the LORD came expressly unto Ezekiel

The first time God come to me, He revealed that He has called me indeed to be a prophet. After my testimony, God come back in a vision and revealed every part and detail of my prophetic ministry to me.

This did not happen to me only but happens to every God called prophet. It happens at the right God appointed time to send a prophet out to the world.

It is an awakening call to a person revealing who s/he is and what s/he was created to do. I never knew before that I was born be a prophet.

In the calling, God empowers, fills the prophet with the Holy Spirit. This is the baptism with fire and the fire burns the prophet greatly.

Every message, vision or prophecy a prophet gives out comes from God and a prophet does not have any prior knowledge of what God presents to her/him. It is God’s message to people and a prophet is God’s mouth piece who is just a vessel conveying God’s message.

From Jeremiah’s calling, we see the functions of a prophet.

God bless you
