Faith is the most important fundamental element and basis of Christianity but what is faith?
From the dictionaries: – Faith is complete trust, confidence or firm especially in religion or beliefs.
From the Bible;
Heb: 11:1: …Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Faith is the opposite of doubt and it is an object oriented response, shaped by what we trust in, namely Jesus Christ (as Christians). If you hope and have firm evidence that something will happen in future; like you will get a job, you will buy a car or build a house; that is faith.
Faith and believe are totally different but they go hand in hand. There are three classes of people according to faith and believe.
- You can have faith and believe (both at the same time).
- You can have faith and not believe and
- You can also believe but not have faith
What do I mean? You can have faith in Jesus Christ but not believe in Him and vise versa. Satan believes that God is the most powerful but he does not have faith in Him. A true Christian should have both great faith and deep believe in Jesus Christ.
As your faith in God grows also your believe deepens, and as your faith diminishes also your believe fades. Those people with total faith in Jesus Christ have deep believe in Him and they doubt nothing about Him, but those with little or no faith, they have little or they do not believe totally everything about Him. Believe therefore is depended with the amount of faith one has.
Where does faith come from as Christians?
Rom: 10:17: So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Faith comes from hearing and only hearing the word of God. Your faith will only grow if you take time to hear the word. Many people do not have time in their life to hear or read the word of God. Look at this article, ‘bad attitude in studying the bible‘. How then are you going to have great faith and believe in Jesus Christ if you listen to the word of God only on Sundays or occasionally?
Scripture clearly explains that the source of faith is God: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God–not by works, so that no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9)”
All glory to Jesus Christ, Amen.
