Worshiping is adoring as divine, giving service to, idolizing or regarding with adoration. There are people who worship the Sabbath day. Worshiping the Sabbath day is being in the day in a way which is not right. It is idolizing the day, giving the day service, adoring the day, regarding the day with adoration or making the day a god.

Sabbath day was created for man not man for Sabbath

God did not create man for or to Sabbath day but Sabbath day was created for man. Man was not created to adore, idolize or serve the Sabbath day but Sabbath day was created to serve man; man to rest. There are those people who take the Sabbath day as a day man was created for.

They cannot help the needy, feed animals, take care of the sick or do good to others or to themselves because it is Sabbath day. You find someone on the road having being hit by a car needing quick medical attention and because it is Sabbath day, and you are on you way to church, you cannot save life. You find fellow-man in trouble and because it is on Sabbath, and being in a building you call church is your priority, you cannot help. This is idolizing a day, it is idolatry.

Jesus teaching on worshiping Sabbath day

In Matthew chapter 12, Mark chapter 2 and other parts of the Bible, Jesus was dealing with this idolatry of worshiping the Sabbath day; worshiping a day. According to the Pharisees, it was wrong for man to pluck and eat ears of corn on the Sabbath day even if s/he was hungry. In present times it is like saying that it is not lawful to pluck a fruit from a tree and eat on the Sabbath day.

Mt 12:1-2: At that time Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were hungry, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, your disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the Sabbath day.

Those who worship the Sabbath day like the Pharisees deny the truth and love living a life of lies. Take a look at how Jesus answered the Pharisees by opening the truth to them from the Bible.

Mt 12:3-5: But he said unto them, have you not read what David did, when he was hungry, and they that were with him. How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the bread of the presence, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the law, how that on the Sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless?

Jesus did not go directly to teach them about the Sabbath but He showed them how they were denying the truth in the Bible and from their fore-fathers. This shows us Christians how to deal with controversial questions asked to us.

In answering controversies we must first reveal the truth in the Bible before teaching them the truth. Jesus went on and said, ….The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath’ (Mk 2:27). And Jesus did many miracles on the Sabbath day.

Many people have turned Sabbath to be a day of celebrating not a day to rest. It is a day when you find people having all sorts of parties, clubs, bars and pubs are crowded people taking alcohol. It is time to fulfill bodily fleshly desires and do all sorts of evil and immorality celebrating because it is the Sabbath day. This is idolatry and worshiping of the Sabbath day.

The big controversy which has been brought out to the world is which day is the Sabbath day?
