  4. Church in Thyatira

Church in Sardis – The Living Dead

Rev 3:1 … ‘I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead’

Sardis church represent people calling themselves Bride of Christ with works and names (titles) but they are dead spiritually – they have a good reputation, but they are spiritually lifeless.

Sardis church was a church of people going through motions of religion and it represents people calling themselves Bride of Christ going through motions of religion – dead spiritually

A person is dead spiritually if s/he lacks the Holy Spirit dwelling in him/her – the baptism with the Holy Spirit

Majority of religious leaders have works, titles but spiritually dead.

Do not be fooled by them appearing spiritual, even Pharisees appeared spiritual but in reality they were living dead

Many calling themselves Christians are living dead – spiritually lifeless

How do you know that you are spiritually alive?

  1. Are you baptized with the Holy Spirit? See how to know if you are baptized with the Holy Spirit
  2. Do you have the fruits of the Holy Spirit?
  3. Do you have a gift of the Holy Spirit? See the kingdom of heaven is not in word but in power

How do you feel when you are about to sin – do you feel the spirit in you fighting you not to and if you sin do you hear the spirit grieve?

When you are about to enter into a bar/club, how do you feel – do you feel the spirit in you fighting you not to enter to a point you cannot even move your legs?

If you can answer the above questions ‘yes’, you are spiritually alive otherwise living dead

Your works are not perfect before God if you are spiritually lifeless

For I have not found your works perfect before God (Rev 3:2)

Religious people boast to men of their works unto the Lord but in reality their works are not perfect before God.

They show off and boast off to men how they preach, teach, help the poor, pray, how they are involved in church, etc but in reality they are living dead with dead works not perfect before God.

Jesus calls them to repent

Rev 3:3: Remember therefore how you have received and heard, and hold fast, and repent

Spiritually lifeless people will be judged by Jesus Himself

‘If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you’ (Revelation 3:3)

Jesus promises that

Rev 3:5: He that overcomes, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before His angels.

See that a name can be written and blotted out from the book of life

Rev 3:6: He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the churches.
